The Perfect Photo Birth Announcement
With digital cameras in most households, ordering photo birth announcements is easier and more cost-effective than ever before! These personal announcements are a treasure for any family member or friend who receives one.
Ordering Photo Birth Announcements
Unless you order from a photo studio, your print company will require you to send a photo in with your order. Ordering online using digital photos is an inexpensive and simple way to send in the information and most companies offer preview features that allow you to see what the photo will look like when placed on the announcement.
Check with the company before ordering to find out what their policies are for photo submission. Most require that you send the digital print unaltered, with no cropping or alterations of any kind.
Picture Perfect Preparation!
Set up a mini “photo shoot” with Baby shortly after the birth. You can do this in the hospital or once you return home. You will need:
- A solid colored receiving blanket or baby outfit
- A plain background blanket (white is best)
- A digital camera
- You and Baby!
Hold your photo shoot during the day in a room with plenty of natural light. Dress your baby in your chosen outfit or wrap them in the receiving blanket. Avoid prints of any kind; Baby should be front and center in the photo, without visual distractions taking away from them.
Place your little bundle on the solid white blanket, ensuring that there is enough blanket all around the baby to fill the photo frame, with no carpet or other background peeking through. This can be a two-person job – have Mom or dad distract the baby and keep them entertained while the other takes the photo.
Say Cheese
For best results, turn off your camera’s date stamp feature and set it to the highest resolution possible.
Stand or kneel above your baby and take plenty of pictures, checking your focus and the quality of the pictures every few shots. Adjust your camera’s settings as necessary. If Baby starts to fuss or get impatient, take a break and try again in a few minutes.
Review your pictures once you are finished and select one that is clean, with the baby in focus and no clutter in the background.
Choose Your Announcement
Browse through the available photo announcement styles; you will be shocked at the number of options you have to choose from! You are sure to find one that suits your personal taste and price range.
Check with the printer to make sure you are ordering matching envelopes. Remember to include all of the important information you wish to have included in the announcement: your names, the baby’s name, grandparent’s names if desired, time and date of birth, hospital and length/weight at the time of birth.
Don’t forget to order extra copies for yourself. Photo birth announcements are a special addition to your photo album or scrapbook!
