The Traditions of Graduation Cap & Black Color in Your Invitations

When it comes to graduation invitations or stationary there are some traditions that are still observed by most people. In the majority of samples that you look at while shopping you will find that there are graduation caps in the majority of them. This is simply an obvious choice of décor since it is an invitation for a graduation. Just as you would put the picture of a bride and groom or a wedding cake on a wedding invitation you would put a graduation cap on the stationary when you are graduating. This is simply the most obvious choice and it can be done very elegantly so it is suitable for men and women and will appeal to every sense of style.

The graduation cap may appear anywhere on the invite, but generally you’ll see it on the front cover. The caps can be done in color, in foil like finishes, and in a variety of shapes, sizes, and styles. If you see one invite that you simply don’t like or isn’t your style, you’ll find many others that are more what you are looking for. This is a tradition that you will see in from just about every stationary resource, you just need to find the one that represents your personal tastes the best. Remember that the invite is meant to communicate to those that you give them to what the day is all about, and how better can you do that than with a graduation cap?

The use of black color is also traditional and this can simply be the writing on the inside that is black or it can be the whole invitation. When invites were first printed there weren’t a whole lot of color choices, so this tradition started innocently enough. Today the tradition is still observed by many schools, who offer their students the ability to order their invites directly from the school. These invites have a very classy feel to them, despite the lack of color. Many times there will be a black and white picture of the school or a graduation cap on the front cover, and for some reason it really stands out and looks great!

The actual writing inside of the graduation invitation is usually black and this is because it stands out and can be easily read on the white background. Most professionals will tell you that when you use a colored writing the eyes of those that read it may have a difficult time focusing, especially if the text is in fancier script style writing. Black text is simply easier for the eye to read, and when you are inviting people to your graduation you want to be sure that they can read the text and arrive on the proper date at the proper time! Black color is tradition and it also works better than anything else you might choose, which is perhaps why the tradition has lasted so long and is still considered standard.
