While many people view Christmas as being all about the presents, the shopping, and the outrageously high credit card bills that roll in throughout January, other people remember that this holiday is really all about remembering the birth of one of the most important figures in Christianity: Jesus.
In fact, some may argue that the greatest gift you could give a loved one this holiday season is a prayer or a blessing.
To send a Christmas card that reflects the true meaning of the holidays, you should start by choosing one that reflects that theme. Many of the best of these cards depict the Nativity scene or other elements of Jesus’ birth. A beautiful example is the gold and white Religious Ornaments card. For cards to or from younger recipients (perfect for a Sunday school class), the Manager Snow Globe cards would be ideal. If you want a religious Christmas card that is beautiful and perfect for a wide audience of friends and family members, then the Blessings of Christmas card might be your best choice.
Remember that no matter how much you cherish your own beliefs, you should avoid sending Christianity-themed cards to people who do not share those beliefs.
To send a blessing to your loved ones, you can take two approaches. One way is to speak with your minister or priest about blessing your finished Christmas cards before you put them in the mail. The blessing will not only protect the cards and ensure they reach their destination safely but it will also bestow good things on your recipients. Most religious leaders will do this for you, but you may be required to make a small donation to the church.
Another option (and, of course, you could do this and still have the cards blessed) is to include a prayer of your own on the interior of the card. Treasure Island author Robert Louis Stevenson once wrote his own Christmas prayer that included the passage below:
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
