Invite a group of Children to a Christmas Party

Children's Christmas PartiesChildren love the anticipation and excitement that the Christmas season brings. They also love being invited to parties.  They will be quick to accept an invitation to any number of theme parties. Search our site here at MyExpression.com for invitations to match the theme that you will be hosting.

Children’s Christmas Theme Party Ideas

Christmas Caroling-Children love to dress warmly and go around the neighborhood or to a nursing home to sing Christmas Carols to those who cannot get out and enjoy community events. Younger children will get restless after an hour of going house to house or room to room, so plan to keep the caroling to no more than that. After caroling, invite the children back to your home or the church or community center for hot chocolate and Christmas cookies.

Attendance at the Nutcracker-Perhaps one of the greatest live events is the annual performance of The Nutcracker Ballet. Send invitations with ice creams or ballet shoes to each child, inviting them to join you at the Ballet (admission covered by you) and then to go out for a SugarPlum dessert party (at an Ice Cream Parlor). This is a very easy party to do, with little planning involved. On the invitation, request that the children come attired in their dressiest outfits, to add to the ambiance of the evening.

Cookie Decorating Party-Most children love to decorate Christmas cookies. Bake cookies prior to the children coming to your home. Set out plates of various shaped sugar cookies and gingerbreads. Spread out a variety of tubes of frosting, miniature candies and sprinkles for the children to use. Put a plate at each place setting. As the invited guests arrive, direct them first to the living room to play a few party games (pin the beard on Santa). Playing games first will help them burn energy and be better able to sit still to decorate the cookies! Play Christmas carols and invite the children to sing along as they decorate their cookies. Use a digital camera to take pictures of each child’s plate of decorated cookies, and print a copy for him to take home as a keepsake of the fun party. End the party with cups of hot cocoa and eating the decorated cookies.

A visit from Santa-Regardless of what type of theme party you are hosting, it is always fun for younger children to have a visit from Santa during the party. Enlist the assistance of a (how shall we politely say “robust”?) male friend and ask him to wear the rented costume to come and hand out gifts to the children. Gifts do not need to be elaborate. Simple toys and games for a dollar store will thrill the kids. Have “Santa” hand out gifts (wrapped and tagged and waiting in a bag for Santa to carry in) to each child, calling him or her by name. Have Santa remind the child that this is an “early” Christmas present, and to try to be on good behavior from now to Christmas. If Santa is agreeable, serve milk and cookies to Santa and the children after gifts are handed out. Children will be delighted with this very easy theme idea.
