Most of us are so busy working and shopping for presents we haven’t had a chance to slow down and choose the Christmas cards we want to send to our friends, family members, and other special people. That’s why this is a great time to learn what’s considered “hot” for 2007 in terms of greeting cards – that might help guide your decisions.
Here are some of those big trends.
- Red & Green – Just as this color combination has come to be synonymous with Christmas, it has also become a very popular color choice for cards this season. Now that doesn’t mean you need both colors in your cards. In fact, what you really want is a greeting card where the red and green color(s) really have a chance to pop. A good example is the Christmas Greetings Collage. The red card is covered with holiday greetings in white and gold which emphasizes the red even more.
- Holiday Traditions – We all know that the reason Christmas is such a popular holiday isn’t just all of the wonderful presents, although that definitely doesn’t hurt. Christmas is also about getting together with friends and family members to share special holiday traditions. Maybe our favorite memory was helping decorate the tree or putting out cookies for Santa. Maybe we enjoyed signing Christmas songs and drinking eggnog or hanging up our stockings over the fireplace. Regardless of which traditions we fondly remember and continue to celebrate, sending out Christmas cards that remind others of these traditions is definitely a popular option this season. One example would include Living Room on Christmas Morning which depicts a traditional scene with a beautiful tree, lots of presents, and carefully hung stockings with a winter scene in the background. The Tree Elements Christmas card is another good choice. The card shows three symbols of the holidays: a sled packed with presents, a decorated tree, and a stocking.
- Decorative Cards – Unlike most of the greeting cards people receive throughout the year, Christmas cards are regularly put on display as part of the decorations. People either hang them up or display them on specially-designed stands. That means, as a card sender, you need to look for cards that can be beautifully displayed in homes not only this year but even subsequent years. One of my favorites is the Gift Die-cut Holiday card. Instead of an ordinary rectangular card, this one is designed to look like an opened present. For something more elegant, the Silver Swirl Tree is a nice choice. The dark blue background is definitely a symbol of both winter and the holidays while the silver-outline of the tree creates a beautiful contrast.
Remember that no matter which Christmas cards you send, it’s really the thought that matters – letting people you care about know you are thinking of them during the holidays. |
