Celebrating Our Guardian Angels at Christmas |
|
Many of us have heard stories of near-tragedies averted by seemingly divine intervention, almost as if someone was watching our backs and keeping us from danger. One example is the story a small family who had almost run out of food over the holidays. The husband had been out of work for months, and their savings had almost been depleted. They could not afford groceries or their bills. Then, just as things looked the darkest, the wife opened up the front door to check the mail and found a basket of food on the doorstep. Nestled inside the basket was an envelope containing several hundred dollars in cash. No card or name was included with the basket. For this family, it was truly a Christmas miracle and proof that a guardian angel had been watching out for them. What are Guardian Angels?Guardian angels are not part of official Christian teachings, but most Church leaders do believe they exist. Even before the Bible was ever written, the ancients – including the Greek philosopher Plato and the Babylonians – also thought someone was out there watching out for them. Both the Old and New Testaments offer clues to the existence of guardian angels. In the Old Testament, angels seemed to be entrusted with protecting certain people, such as Moses and Lot. In the New Testament, other passages suggest that every person is assigned an angel Angels in the New Testament also come to Jesus and St. Peter when they are needed most. The angels will even help us find our ways to heaven and salvation. Celebrating the Guardian AngelsWhile it may be a bit difficult remembering that we each have a guardian angel watching out for us and protecting us, it’s always nice to remind one another of their presence. To remind them, why not send Christmas cards bearing the images of beautiful angels on the cards. Some good examples include Angel with Dove cards, Angel with Trumpet cards, Pearl Angel cards, or Embossed Angel cards. Remember to send a small note reminding recipients that their guardian angel will be watching out for them during the holidays. |
