Sending Christmas Cards to Our Military |
|
Regardless of our individual political views about the war, all of us support our military’s efforts to help keep us safe so that we can enjoy times like Christmas with our families even though they can’t be with theirs for the holiday. And while our soldiers are making huge sacrifices and risking their lives, they aren’t the only heroes working to keep us safe. Our local police forces and firemen, for example, risk their lives almost daily to ensure we’re protected. What better way to let these folks know that we appreciate their efforts than by sending them Christmas cards? Sending Christmas Cards to Our TroopsSoldiers, just like anyone else, want to know that they are thought of while they are far away and working to protect the country. Sending Christmas cards and care packages is a nice way of brightening their day and easing their burden, at least temporarily. One of the best cards to send over are the Patriotic Gifts cards which are decorate in red, white, and blue and an American flag to show your support for them and for our country. Another idea is to send cards with a peace-related theme along with a handwritten message that you hope peace comes soon so they can return home to their loved ones. The Global Ornaments with their three globes and “Peace on Earth” message seems appropriate for this purpose, as does the Embossed Dove holiday card.
If you are interested in sending our soldiers Christmas cards, one way is to go to the AnySolider web site. You can request up to two addresses per day. While the site is technically free, it does need donations to stay in online and to keep providing this useful service for our troops. If you’re interested in sending Christmas cards to wounded soldiers, a good way is to contact the Walter Reed Army Medical Center at (270) 782-3501. The staff there can give you their address and any instructions on how to send the cards. Sending Christmas Cards to Other HeroesSending Christmas cards to your local heroes, such as the police or fire departments, are also important. While they may be able to spend more time with their families than the soldiers, they are still risking their lives regularly. The peace-theme cards also work well for these groups, too. For example, the beautiful golden Peace Angel or the White Peace Dove would both be great choices. You can usually find the location of your local police or fire stations by consulting your local phone book or contacting a city government office. |
