Besides the Christmas tree, one thing that always brings to mind the holiday season is Christmas music. When you start hearing “Deck the Halls” or “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” playing in stores and on the radio, then you know the holiday is right around the corner.
While we know Christmas and music go together nicely, most of us haven’t thought of music being a wonderful theme for our own holiday cards. I think it’s time that changed.
If you are a lover of music, if most of the people are your Christmas card list love music, or if you just want to share some holiday spirit with local music schools or performers, then musical-themed Christmas cards may be the best option for you this season.
Whether or not you are sending music-themed Christmas cards this year, you can always find a way to make your cards a little more musical. For example, you can find stickers of music notes or instruments at many scrapbook supply stores. Use the stickers to seal your envelopes (a better choice them licking all of them!), to decorate the envelopes, or to add color to the inside of the cards themselves. If you don’t want to use stickers, look for stencils that will make it easy for you to draw the notes and instruments on the cards yourself using colored pencils (markers can seep through the envelope and damage the card).
If you want your Christmas cards this season to be something unique, as well as musically-themed, then here’s another idea. Compile Christmas songs on your computer. Make sure you choose traditional favorites and ones that can be legally used in this way, then create a CD of those songs. Copy that CD for all of the individuals on your Christmas card guest list, place the CD in a protective sleeve (which you can also decorate before placing the CD inside), and include the disc when you mail out your Christmas cards. Sure, it may take a little extra postage, but your recipients will love the extra surprise you’ve included for them.
