Tips for a Great Housewarming Party

Moving is practically a part of life. Few people ever stay in the same home or apartment for too long. And while moving can be a real chore, it does give you a great excuse for throwing a party and for sending out moving announcements. Let’s look at some ideas that might help.

Moving Announcements

When you are preparing to move, your first stop should always be the post office. You need to let them know about your impending move as soon as possible so your mail can be forwarded to your new address without problems. The post office has forms you can fill out, plus you can now complete them online, too.

Once you tell the post office, you should think about sending out moving announcements to all of your family and friends so they can update their address books. A fun way is to use moving announcement postcards. They are short and sweet, but they get the job done. You’ll also pay less in postage.

Moving/Housewarming Party

Your housewarming party is a great time to show off your new home and to relax after the stresses of moving. If you’ve had help moving from your friend and family, then definitely make sure to invite them to the party. It might even be a good time to show your appreciation with a small gift, such as a gift certificate or gift basket.

There are no set rules about what constitutes a housewarming party, but you definitely should create a fun and casual atmosphere. You probably won’t feel like preparing a major sit down meal for all of your guests (that could be a separate party once you get settled in) so instead serve platters of appetizers or have a few pizzas delivered. It’s not fancy, but your guests will love it.

For entertainment, why not enjoy a few board games or watch a movie. The movie idea is especially good if you have an impressive audio/visual set up in your new home that you’d like to showcase. Just make sure the movie you select is appropriate for all of your guests – you might even consider listing the name of the movie in the invitations.

Speaking of invitations, you’ll want to make sure to get those invites in the mail a couple of weeks before the party. If you’re worried about receiving the responses from guests in a timely fashion, you can ask them to RSVP by email or phone. Remember to select fun housewarming-themed invitations, such as the welcome mat invitations or the new house invitations.
