Sending Modern Thank You Cards: A Few Tips

When someone does a nice favor for us, it’s only good manners to show our appreciation with a thank you card. Unfortunately, many of us have forgotten or never learned the correct way to write these notes so we end up ignoring the responsibility. We may say “thank you” but that quick verbal gesture doesn’t really mean as much as taking the time to write a brief note to express your appreciation. With that in mind, let’s look at some helpful tips that can help you write effective thank you cards.

Selecting Attention-Getting Thank You Cards

First, you want to spend some time choosing the right thank you cards. Whether you are thanking people for gifts, kind gestures, donations, or just general friendship, it’s important to select attractive thank you cards. If you don’t put some time into the selection of the cards, it looks as if you didn’t really care about sending them in the first place. And that’s not the message you want to send.

If you want modern thank you cards with an attractive and unique look, a few ideas include teal pattern, green pattern, green leaves, pink tag, teal and brown thank you cards.

Writing Your Thank You Message

One of the biggest mistakes people make when sending thank you cards is simply buying cards with pre-written messages inside and sending those with just a simple signature. That doesn’t really express much sincerity.

Instead, you should choose cards that are blank inside so you can write a personalized message. Always begin that message with “Dear” and the person’s name(s). You can be as casual or as formal with the name as you think is appropriate. Obviously, you wouldn’t start a thank you card to your brother with “Dear Mr. Smith.”

After the salutation, you should be specific about why you are thinking the person. For example, you might write: “Thank you for the lime green sweater and matching socks. They kept me very warm today after our first heavy snowfall.” If you are thinking someone for a gesture, you might say, “I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated you babysitting my cat while I was in Hawaii for two weeks. It meant a lot to me that you would do this for Fluffy, and I know she was happier with you than she would have been at a kennel.”

Don’t forget to close with “Yours truly” or “Sincerely” and your signature.

Remember your thank you messages don’t have to be lengthy but they should be specific, sincere, and handwritten.
