Growing Orchids for Your Garden Party

With the weather improving, the time to start planning out your garden and thinking about all of those wonderful outdoor parties is drawing near. One of the most beautiful flowers to consider including in your arrangements are orchids.

Orchid Growing Basics

Many people are fearful of growing orchids because they think they are delicate flowers requiring advance gardening know how. The good news is that orchids are not really much more difficult than other flower. You just need to do a little research before choosing a type of orchid so you can find one that will grow in your environment and you need to have the correct materials.

The best way to begin is by growing your orchids in pots in your home. Orchids don’t grow well in the soil so if you’ve dreamed of having a garden full of orchids you may want to wait until you have a little bit more experience. You can take them outdoors, however, and use them as beautiful decorations for parties. It’s just important to block them from direct sunlight and to keep them misted so they don’t dry out.

When you’re growing orchids in your home, you need to keep them near a south-facing window where the plant will be exposed to sunlight in the morning and afternoon. If you don’t have a good supply of sunshine into your home, then consider growing you orchids in a small greenhouse or investing in artificial light.

Humidity levels need to be just right for orchids. You can achieve this by placing the orchids’ pot on a tray filled with water. The water will evaporate thanks to the sunlight and provide the plant with moisture. You’ll also need to mist your orchids with distilled water – never use tap water because the deposits from the water can damage the plants. You should always mist instead of watering because overly wet plants can be vulnerable to bacteria.

Using Orchids as a Theme

If you’ve been growing some beautiful orchids indoors, then it’s a good idea to use them as the theme for one of your spring parties. They can be wonderful decorations on tables, for example, or you can grow them as gifts for party guests.

You may want to start your orchid theme with your invitations. A few options include Pink Orchid Slim, Opulent Orchids, and Orchid Fancy invitations. Consider matching your invitations to the color orchids you’ve been growing for an extra special touch.
