St. Patrick’s Day Theme Party |

Type of CelebrationBefore you can start inviting guests and planning your menu, you need to decide how you will celebrate the day. One idea for celebrating with children is to have a breakfast for them. Another idea is to host a dinner party and serve traditional Irish fare. For those who prefer a quiet celebration, consider a movie night, featuring movies set in Ireland. Some people “host” the party by taking invited guests to a pub for some green beer!Themed DecorationsLeprechauns, pots of gold at the end of a rainbow, shamrocks, themed paper products and the color green are all a part of “Luck of the Irish” celebrations. I have seen elaborate displays of colored balloons arched into a rainbow with pots of gold used at the party entrance, as well as simple foil cutouts scattered about the room. One corporate meeting, that I was invited to attend on St. Patrick’s Day, featured an employee costumed as a Leprechaun! Gold accents amongst the green will quickly add atmosphere. All party supply outlets offer a plethora of themed options to aid you in decorating the party space! Simply invite your guests to come wearing green articles of clothing, and your decorating will be complete! InvitationsBe sure that your invitations properly express your St. Patrick’s Day plans. If you will be having a dinner party, choose one that allows you to put the menu on it. If you are inviting guests to go with you to an Irish parade or pub, be sure to give clear directions on the invitation; as well as a cell phone number where they can reach you if problems arise in meeting you. For children who will be awakening to find that they’ve been visited by the Leprechauns, look for invitations that hint at the magic of the visitors! Food and DrinkSome families say that Leprechauns visited the home during the night and magically turned certain breakfast foods green (really done by the parent with food coloring). The milk, butter, and cream cheese are green. Creative school teachers celebrate the day by having children read the book “Green Eggs and Ham” and serving the same for lunch! A growing majority of people enjoy the traditional corn beef and cabbage for dinner, complete with Irish Soda Bread. For those disliking corn beef and cabbage; consider accenting your less traditional meal with green salad, green vegetables and green desserts such as mint ice cream in chocolate cups. Party favors can be green candy and gum, tied in netting with green ribbon! |
