While in Western cultures, white is traditionally the color associated with weddings (probably because of purity, trust, etc.) that doesn’t mean you can’t throw in a little color contrast at your wedding. The combination of black and white has considerable visual appeal. It’s eye-catching. Even though black and white wedding invitations are definitely a great start for adding this contrast to the look of your big event, you don’t have to stop there.
As you probably already know if you’re a regular reader here, your wedding invitations should set the tone and theme for the rest of the event. The good news is if you want to go with a black and white motif you still have the option of choosing either a more casual celebration or more formal festivities. If you prefer something fun and casual (and you’d prefer to go with a black and gray color scheme) the Black Diamond Keepsake Jacket Invitations might be a good choice. If you want to keep that stark contrast, a better choice might be the very popular Black Licorice Slim Invitations. If you’re having a large traditional wedding with a sit down catered meal at the reception, then you may want to send out invitations that are a little more elegant, such as the Black Celebration Pocket Invitations or the Black Toile Overlay Invitations.
Besides the invitations, you can make these contrasting colors the center of your wedding theme in a number of ways. For example, your wedding cake could be covered in white frosting with black decorations (you’d want to avoid black roses unless you’re going for a gothic wedding theme). Your decorations could be done in black and white, too. Two white balloons tied to a black balloon and hung in the corners, along banisters, or even on chair backs can add a nice touch. For your linens, you could have white (or black) tablecloths with napkins of the opposite color.
If you are wearing a white wedding dress, then you can add touches of black to the ensemble. Black sash, ebony jewelry, even a black handbag would give just enough dash of darkness to create the contrast you want (Wedding Invitations to Match Your Wedding Dress). Plus, if the groom is wearing a black suit or tuxedo the two of you will look beautiful together at the altar.
The bottom line is you don’t need a lot of bright colors to have a beautiful wedding. Something as simple as black and white can create just the effect you’re looking for.
