Announcing Your Wedding Blog in Your Wedding Invitations

Announcing Your Wedding Blog in Your Wedding InvitationsIf you’re already familiar with the Internet, then you probably already know about blogging. If not, a blog is essentially an online journal. People use blogs to express their opinions, to promote their businesses, to relate news stories to the public, and more.

For engaged couples, blogging has become a hot new trend. For the last few years, couples have created personal web sites detailing information about their weddings, including photos and even online response cards. Now they are using blogs to tell their own love stories and to help family and friends follow along with the trials and tribulations of the wedding day countdown.

Setting Up Your Wedding Blog

Setting up your blog isn’t difficult. You’ll be able to find a number of free services, including Blogger.com (you need a Google account to get started) or WordPress.com (you can have up to 35 members to your blog for free). You may prefer to choose a paid blog service if you want a few more features. Typepad.com, for example, has accounts available starting as low as $4.95 per month. Obviously with so many options available, you’ll want to shop around to decide which service offers the best deal for what you want.

After you pick a service, you’ll need to browse their selection of blog templates. By using pre-made templates you will save yourself lots of time, plus you won’t need any specialized web design knowledge to get started. Once you choose a template, you’ll be able to make some custom changes, such as picking a specific font and color. Many of the sites also allow you to add extra elements to your blog, such as guest books, comment boxes, and images.

Adding Content & Attracting Readers to Your Blog

Once you’ve made the aesthetic choices, you’ll be able to start writing. In most cases, your first entry should be a welcome message with a brief explanation of what the blog is about and why you chose to create it. Then you can add more entries as often as you want. You might want to include details about your own love story, including how you met, your first impressions of each other, where you went on your first date, and how the proposal took place.

Incidentally, most blog services do allow you to choose whether or not you prefer a public or a private blog. A public blog, for example, will be viewable by anyone on the Internet who happens to come across it. On the other hand, a private blog may be password protected so only certain people are allowed to access it. You are free to decide which method you prefer.

The final step is to let everyone know about your new blog. A good way to do that is through your wedding invitations. You can simply have the URL of your blog (and the password if you’ve made it private) typed on your invitations directly or on a separate card that you choose to include. If you want to start your blog even earlier, you could include the URL with your save the date cards and with your official invitations. Either way, the blog is a wonderful way to share your love story with all of your potential wedding guests.
