Christmas Wedding Invitations

Wedding InvitationsChristmas weddings can be ideal choices for many reasons. For one, you should be able to secure good prices on locations and vendors because it's the off-season for weddings. Plus, many of your family members may already be in town for the holidays so they'll be more likely to attend.

Of course, your list of gifts might be a little small as all of your guests either prepare for or recover from Christmas present buying. But that's a small price to pay for such a special event.

Invitations for Christmas Weddings

For starters, you'll need to send out save the date cards at least four months before your wedding date. Since your guests are going to start making their holiday plans early, you'll want to give them plenty of advanced warning so they can fit your wedding into their schedule.

When you select your actual invitations, you should choose something very traditional if it matches with the tone of your wedding. Heavy card stock in white or cream with a matching dark colored envelope make a lovely impression for a Christmas wedding.

If you want something a little less formal, try to find ways to work in your Christmas theme. You could have invitations shaped like ornaments or Christmas trees, paper decorated with images of Santa Clause or snowmen, or invitations mailed in small boxes so they are opened like Christmas presents instead of cards.

Wedding Invitations

For a Christmas wedding, a church or private home decorated for the holiday would be good choices for the location. Both create a feeling of togetherness which is what you want for this season.

Warm attire should be worn by everyone in the wedding party: velvets and wool are good material choices for Christmas weddings. You may also want to spring for matching wraps for all of the bridal attendants if they are wearing strapless or off-the-shoulder dresses.

For your reception, consider serving warm beverages, such as hot chocolate or warm apple cider, along with traditional elements of your family's Christmas meals: ham, turkey, yams, rolls, etc. With your wedding cake, consider having each tier decorated like a separate wedding present or decorate it with sugar ornaments or snowflakes. On top, you could have a snowman or a Santa Clause in addition to the traditional bride and groom topper.

Decorating a Christmas wedding shouldn't be too difficult either. You could use actual Christmas trees (real or artificial) then decorate them with white or colored lights and ornaments matching your wedding colors. Miniature Christmas trees might make lovely centerpieces for the tables, as would dark colored candles on glass plates covered with snowflake confetti. If you don't want to use Christmas trees, you could still purchase Christmas lights to decorate the aisle or the reception area. If you wanted a white wedding, consider renting a snow machine to cover your dance floor, aisle, or reception entrance with fake snow. It looks beautiful but remember you'll probably be charged extra for the clean-up.

Before your guests leave, you can give them a present of your own. Ornaments or candles are perfect for the season. Make sure to place them in decorative boxes with bows or wrap them like small presents.
