Destination Weddings & Save The Date Cards
Save the date cards have become a fairly common addition to most wedding stationery packages. Their purpose is, of course, to give guests advanced notice about the date of your wedding so they can begin making arrangements.
While save the date cards aren’t mandatory for all weddings, if you are having a destination wedding then they are definitely a necessity because people need to start planning in advance. Some couples wonder what constitutes a destination wedding. The simple answer is any location that is going to require significant travel for all or most of your guests, including the bridal party and usually the couple.
Ideas for Your Destination Wedding Save the Date Cards
Generally, your save the date cards (like the rest of your wedding stationery) should reflect the theme and tone of your wedding. For example, if you are having an island or beach wedding then you may want to choose save the date cards depicting beaches, ocean scenes, fish, palm trees, etc. You’ll be surprised at how many options are available.
Save the date cards need to be attention-getting. You don’t want your guests to ignore them or to forget about them – that would defeat their purpose. For this reason, you may consider bright colors for the cards or unique shapes, such as die-cut suitcases. Make sure to use bold and large fonts for the date so it stands out when guests look at them.
Another idea is to purchase save the date magnets instead of traditional cards. The magnets do cost a little more and are smaller, but your guests can stick them on the refrigerator or their cubicle at work then your reminder will never be too far out of their sight.
Other Tips for Your Save the Date Cards
Although you do want your save the date cards to match the rest of your wedding stationery, you also want to keep them in the mail early so try to order them as soon as you’ve decided on a date and a general location, such as the Bahamas or Switzerland. If you’ve already made some preliminary reservations, then you should send along any relevant information about the cost of the hotel, airfare, etc.
Remember the most important information for your save the date cards is your name and the date. It might also be a good idea to include a contact phone number so guests can get in touch with you if they already know they can’t make it, if they need more information, or if they just want to congratulate you.
