Unique Wedding Invitations with Embellishments

Embellishments that create unique style for your Wedding InvitationsWedding invitations are always going to be special for the couple sending them out, but most couples also want their invitations to be, something unique for the guests, too. While having unique invitations may be easy for couples having an informal wedding because they have more choices in terms of colors and designs, even couples using traditional invitations can make a unique statement using the right embellishments.

Traditional Wedding Invitation Embellishments

Embellishments are essentially the extra details you add to your invitation. Ribbons, for example, are the most common. They can be used to attach your printed overlay to the background card or as an attachment to the invitation itself. Of course, since ribbon is so common, you might prefer to choose lace or ribbon with an interesting pattern instead.

Another idea is to use charms. Charms are small dangles, usually about ½ inch in size. They can be attached to the invitation using a hole punch and a piece of sheer ribbon. The nice thing about charms is that so many of them are available. You can find traditional wedding charms, such as wedding bells or joined wedding bands, or you can find a whole assortment of other charms which might more accurately represent your personality as a couple. For example, if you love country music, you could have a cowboy hat charm. If you're both Irish, you could use a shamrock charm. There are literally hundreds of charms you can find online with just a simple search.

Other Embellishment Ideas

Like the charms, pressed flower embellishments can be a nice way to add a unique touch to your invitations. You can find the flowers of almost any type available for sell online, so you can match the embellishment with your wedding flowers or with the flower motif on your invitations (if you're using one) or with your wedding colors. You can also create your own pressed flowers by using heavy books, very fresh flowers, and a couple of weeks of waiting.

If you don't like the idea of using pressed flowers, you can also purchase miniature silk bouquets or ordinary silk flowers to add to your invitations. Like the pressed flowers, you can usually find a wide-range of options to match your wedding flowers or colors. Plus, with silk flowers, you don't have to worry about allergic reactions from recipients.

Of course, you don't necessarily have to attach your embellishments to your invitations. Some couples prefer to just include a little “surprise” in their invitations.; One choice is using confetti. You can purchase packets of confetti or make your own – use metallic or pastel paper and a shape-making hole puncher. Another idea is to purchase pressed rose petals. You can choose to use traditional red or pick a different color, such as yellow, white, or pink. Toss in a few of the petals with each invitation. Not only will the petals be a unique surprise for your guests, but the petals should also make the invitation fragrant.

A final idea is to make your own embellishments. For example, you could purchase stencils and paint to add your initials, hearts, wedding cakes, or other designs to the invitations or to the envelopes. Just make sure the paint dries completely before you prepare the invitation for mailing.
