Celebrating Your Hawaiian Themed Bridal Shower
Bridal showers are supposed to be fun events where a bride-to-be and her family and friends celebrate the upcoming wedding. Of course, planning such an event and trying to give it an unusual or unique twist can be incredibly challenging. One idea that can be a lot of fun whether you’re going to have a destination wedding or not is to have a Hawaiian theme for your bridal shower.
Here are some ideas for planning this type of event.
Planning Starters
Obviously, the first step is choosing a location. Most bridal showers take place in a private residence or in a rented reception hall or a similar venue. You may want to put together a potential guest list so you can choose a venue that will be the appropriate size for the number of people you want to invite.
Once you select a place and, of course, a date for the event, you’ll want to start sending out invitations. Remember to give guests plenty of time to let you know if they are coming or not and to make their own arrangements. Generally, your invitations should match the theme of your invite. In this case, the Hawaiian Grass Skirt, Hula Girl, and Grass Skirt invitations would all be good choices.
Next, you’ll want to begin deciding on entertainment for your event. Most bridal showers include games that test the guests’ knowledge about the couple or other types of games that allow guests to have fun. Few bridal showers require hiring outside talent. However, you could choose to hire a band or a DJ for the event if you want. For smaller events, you could even show Hawaiian-themed movies such as Blue Hawaii.
Hawaiian-Themed Refreshments
If you’re struggling to decide what to serve at your Hawaiian-themed bridal shower, you may want to borrow inspiration from actual luaus and their menus. The centerpiece of most of these events is a roasted pig. Now if you don’t want to roast your own pig, you could always choose to have barbecued pork or perhaps some roasted chicken breasts as the main course.
Another item you should serve is tropical fruit. Pineapple, coconut, mango, and similar fruits should either be served right along with the main course if possible. Grilled pineapple slices, for example, are very tasty.
Other dishes, such as poi (a dish of mashed cooked corn with water added) and haupia (a coconut-flavored gelatin-textured pudding dessert), could also be served. Recipes are readily available on the Internet or you could hire someone to cater the food. Some catering places do offer Hawaiian luau menus.
For dessert, you could always bake a delicious pineapple upside down cake or serve cups of tropical fruit topped with ice cream, sorbet, or whipped topping.
Of course, you don’t want to forget the beverage portion of your refreshments. One of the most popular drinks at a luau is the Mai Tai – a combination of types of rums, liqueurs, and orange juice served over crushed ice. Make sure to serve a few to your guests with a tropical umbrella garnish along with a few colorful leis to top off the mood of the festive Hawaiian-themed event.
