London, England: Your Wedding Destination

More and more couples are choosing destination weddings as their way of tying the knot. In the past, these romantic getaways were usually to tropical locals, such as Aruba, or no-questions-asked places like Las Vegas. Today, couples are more likely to experiment with different locations. One of the most popular in recent years has been London, England.

Why London?

London has plenty to offer American (and other) couples looking for a wonderful destination wedding experience. One big plus is the lack of a language barrier. Although there are some differences in slang, most British people can communicate with most American people and vice versa. That’s not always the case in some exotic locations.

London also has plenty of great attractions that make it well worth a visit. And many of those attractions make perfect sites for weddings.

If you’re looking for another reason to consider London for your destination wedding then maybe these England-inspired invitations will be sufficient.

London Attractions

One of the most incredible London attractions is also one of the most popular for weddings. The London Eye is an enormous observation wheel that stands on the bank of the Thames and gives riders an unbelievable view of the city. You ride in enclosed capsules that provide a full 360 degree view of the environment, and the capsules are large enough to move around comfortably during the ride. The London Eye even offers several wedding packages for couples. The packages include a variety of extras, including champagne, private celebration rooms before the ride, anniversary rides, a one night stay at a hotel, and even a gourmet meal at a restaurant. Prices for the packages range from around $3,700 to $6,400 USD.

If the idea of saying “I do” high above the city of London isn’t right for you, then there are plenty of other attractions where you might be able to celebrate. The newly reconstructed Globe Theater, which was designed to look like the original where Shakespeare’s plays were first performed for Elizabethan audiences, includes a restaurant and facilities for receptions and other events, for example.

The city also is home to some of the most beautiful churches in the world, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, and other incredible historic sites, such as the Abbey Road Studios (where the Beatles recorded some of their albums). You could also visit or exchange your vows at the London Aquarium or Parliament Square.

Destination Weddings in London

If you decide to get married in London and you want to have your friends and family share the experience with you, check with local travel agents to see if you can find some good deals on airfare and/or hotel reservations. You may be surprised at how affordable traveling can be. Make sure you give your guests plenty of advanced notice – usually by sending out save the date cards and details about the wedding plans – so they can make all of the necessary arrangements and start saving the money necessary for the trip. The experience will likely be one none of them or you forget.
