Wedding Invitations to Match Your Wedding Dress

Matching Wedding Dress InvitationsSome brides choose a certain season, flower, or color as the theme for their weddings. Other brides choose to make their wedding dresses the focal point of their big day. For the bride, the wedding dress is obviously one of the most important ingredients for the entire event so it’s no surprise that an increasing number of women want their dress to set the theme for everything else in their wedding, including their wedding invitations.

Your Wedding Invitations

Before you can decide to have wedding invitations to match your wedding dress, you need to have the dress picked out in advance. An ordinary white dress without any frills or colors won’t make much of a focal point, so the dress should have some subtle accents that can be woven through all of the elements of the wedding.

For example, you may have fallen in love with a wedding gown trimmed in dark gray or silver accents. To match your dress, your wedding invitations could be done in a white card stock paper with gray ink and silver accents. You could also choose to have a standard invitation with black ink but tuck all of the pieces away in silver envelopes.

With more dresses today including dashes of bright color, such as reds and greens, you could let those accent colors become the theme in your wedding. Your invitations, for instance, could be white and red or white and green. Your flowers, wedding cake, and bridesmaids dresses would be in the same color scheme as well.

Wedding Dress InvitationsNot all brides want to wear white. If you choose an off-white, ivory, or cream-colored dress, then you could use that same hue as your paper choice for your wedding invitations, as well as for the icing on your cake, the table cloths at the reception, and the bows on the floral bouquets.

Traditional Wedding Gown

Even if the wedding gown you choose is very traditional, you may still be able to find something about it to incorporate in the rest of your wedding. Lace accents on the dress can be added to the invitations. Strips of the same type of lace could be used instead of bows, for example. If your dress includes old-fashioned buttons, then you could make that the focus of your invitation by using white buttons as decorations which can either be attached to the invitation or used as a seal for the inner envelope.

If your main concern is matching the wedding invitations to your dress, then you have a few other options, too. You could purchase invitations pre-designed with a picture of your gown style on the front or you could have such an invitation created by a graphic designer. With the graphic designer option, he or she could literally recreate the dress you’ll be wearing on the invitations. Brides who aren’t too superstitious and who can’t wait to be photographed in their wedding apparel could have a photograph taken of her wearing the gown during one of the fitting sessions then use that as the main image on the wedding invitations.

Regardless of whether the wedding invitations match the wedding dress, on that big day while the bride is walking down the aisle her gown is going to be the center of attention. Using the invitations to give the guests a hint of what that dress is going to look like though can be fun and creative.
