Fancy a tropical beach with palm trees swaying in the background and white, glistening sand beneath your feet? Destination weddings are becoming more popular each day. And who could resist a gorgeous tropic paradise as backdrop to this special occasion? Whether you’re getting married on the sandy beaches of Hawaii or simply want a tropical themed wedding, nothing announces your nuptials better than luau themed invitations. As more and more couples are opting for these exotic wedding ceremonies more design companies are offering a greater selection of beach styled invitations, so you’ve got plenty to choose from. And of course, you can get creative and design your own invites.
A Luau themed wedding is a lot of fun and you can definitely stretch the boundaries when it comes to invitations. The sky is the limit. Get your creative juices flowing. Work with your wedding planner to come up with ideas, or enlist friends and family to share their ideas.
One suggestion is to experiment with different shapes. For more casual seaside weddings try sandal-shaped invitations with ribbons on the outside for the sandal straps. The lettering should be exotic and playful in hues of green or blue.
Similarly innovative is the beach chair invitation. This is less traditional, but it’s perfect for a relaxed destination wedding. The invitation is perforated so it actually opens up and folds into a chair. The wording is printed on the back of the chair, and the whole thing can easily be folded to fit into an envelope.
A more elegant play on this theme is a shell shaped invitation which can also be extended to the place holders if you want to keep the motif going.
For something more eye catching, why not send out messages in a bottle. These make for great keepsakes and set the tone for the party. Your guests will love it.
If you want to stick with something more traditional, yet still exotic, you can opt for colorful prints. Try floral designs such as hibiscus borders, orchids or a bird of paradise embossed on the envelope. A wistful tropical scene with a palm tree against a sunset printed on a bright, pearl white horizontal fold invitation is cool and classic.
For a minimalistic look, opt for a simple white invitation with a wave motif printed on the bottom. Or try a classic palm leaf print with colors reversed on the outside and inside of the invitation, creating a cool optical effect.
Other stylish prints include shells, Fiji flowers, palm fronds, coconuts, leis, and plumeria blooms.
You can also go retro. Decorate your invitations with Tiki lamps and hula girls. Put a tropical cocktail with an umbrella to boot on the front of your invites. Think surf boards and Hawaiian dancers. Go with the Hawaiian shirt look. Use warm greens and robust yellows. Fonts should be casual yet flowing.
Remember to pick something to set the tone for your beachside wedding celebration.
