Choosing a Music Theme for Your Wedding & Invitations

All of the parts of wedding planning are critical to the success of your big event. You want the perfect dress, the ideal wedding cake, the location you’ve dreamed about forever, but you also need to pay attention to another important factor: your wedding music.

Wedding music – like the theme you select – will help set the tone of the event. However, if you truly love music then you may find that music may play an even larger role in your overall wedding theme.

Wedding Music Theme

Obviously, you’ll want to spend some quality time choosing music for your reception. During that point of the festivities, the music will serve not only as a back drop for the events but also as entertainment for your guests. Hiring a band or a deejay could be ideal choices, but you want to make sure whom ever you hire understands the musical tastes of you and your guests. It’s also a good idea to go for variety. While many of your guests may love a deejay that plays songs from the 1980’s, there may be other songs from other decades they want to hear or that you want to dance to.

You’ll also want music at your ceremony. However, you don’t necessarily need a team of professionals. A single organist or piano player should be sufficient and many churches have such a performer on staff for these occasions (usually for an additional fee). If someone in your family or a friend is blessed with musical talent, then it’s absolutely acceptable to invite them toperform as well.

Taking the Music Theme Further

Music doesn’t have to stop at performers, however. For example, you could start off by sending out music-themed wedding invitations, such as Musical Notes, Clef Notes, or the unique Musical Discovery with Vellum cards. You can further personalize your wedding invitations by adding lyrics from some of your favorite songs to the invitations or as decorations to the inner envelope.

Furthermore, you could have a cake decorated with musical notes or instruments or even a cake created in the shape of a violin or guitar. You could use tambourines as centerpieces surrounded by flowers. For party favors, you could give away musical snow globes or mix CD’s of special songs played during your ceremony and reception.

If you work with a particularly open-minded caterer, you could also discuss renaming all of the food dishes with music-related names. As with any theme, the key to success is being creative and consistent. Just keep that in mind while planning your music-themed wedding.
