Patriotic Wedding Invitations for Independence Day

Patriotic Wedding InvitationsWhile Independence Day may not be the first holiday that comes to mind when you think of your wedding, you could certainly show your patriotic spirit with invitations designed with that day in mind. In fact, your patriotic wedding invitations could be just the start of a Fourth of July theme for your entire wedding.

Choosing Patriotic Wedding Invitations

For the invitations, the most obvious way to inject patriotism into your design is with a red, white, and blue color scheme. You can use the colors in a number of different ways. For example, you might choose red or blue paper for the cards, then use white and the other color for the ink or the accents.

If you want more than just the color to show-off your love of freedom, then you could design the invitations with images of flags, eagles, and other American symbols. You could also choose black paper, then create a firework design in white, red, and blue, perhaps covered in glitter to make it stand out even more. You might also opt for a three-layer panel invitation with each layer being a different one of those three patriotic colors.

Even your accents could be patriotic. You could purchase small flags or even flag pins to use as accents on your invitations or you could use red, white, and blue ribbon.

Having a Patriotic Theme for Your Wedding

Remember that your invitations should reflect the larger theme of your wedding. If you choose to create patriotic wedding invitations, then you’ll want to continue that theme in other ways, too. For example, you might choose a three-tiered wedding cake with each tier being red, white, or blue. Your flower decorations at the ceremony and reception could incorporate a similar floral motif.

Patriotic Wedding InvitationsAnother idea is to include the names of family members and friends who have served in the armed forces or who lost their lives during a war in your wedding program so they can be remembered as part of your special day. If you have someone currently serving overseas, you might want to include a special mention of them, perhaps a poem (I, II, III, IV), in your ceremony.

To carry the theme into your reception, you could have a sit-down dinner or buffet that included traditional Independence Day menu items, such as fried chicken and potato salad. Of course, your caterer could always jazz up these standard items with extra herbs or special recipes so they don’t seem quite as ordinary.

If you’re more interested in a casual reception, your best choice is a cook-out. You can either hire a caterer who specializes in handling outdoor cooking and barbecues or you could put some of your guests in charge of grilling up steaks, hamburgers, chicken, hot dogs, or even vegetables. Instead of a cash or open bar, you could set up a couple of kegs.

No matter what type of reception you choose, the perfect way to end a wedding that started with patriotic wedding invitations is with fireworks. Before the newly married couple leaves for their honeymoon, sparklers, fountains, and other fireworks could be set off in the reception area’s parking lot or other safe, dry area. Make sure you get permission to use the fireworks at your location and check with your local laws about permissible fireworks first.

At the end of your special event, you’ll not only be overwhelmed by the joy from your new marriage and the love from your family and friends, but also your celebration of America, freedom, and patriotism.
