Do-it-yourself Wedding Invitations
Questions to Ask Before Creating Your Own Wedding Invitations
Today, more brides and grooms are opting to create their own wedding invitations instead of spending a fortune to have them created by a professional printer. The truth is you can save money and create something unique by making your own invitations but before you take that step you should ask yourself a few questions.
Question: Do I have time to make my own invitations?
When you’re planning a wedding, you also need more time. Creating those wedding invitations is going to take a lot more of your time. You’ll end up spending hours on them, plus you’ll still have to add embellishments and address all of the envelopes. If you have a team of family members or friends who would be willing to pitch in, then you may be able to save time. However, don’t count on their help when deciding if you have the time.
Question: Can I rely on help from my friends and family?
We all know people who say they’d be happy to help, then when the time comes they back out or have other plans. You can’t afford to rely on people who won’t be there to give you a hand with these invitations when you need them. If you can’t trust them to help, then you may want to consider another option. Trust me, there’s too much work involved for one person to do alone.
Question: Is my wedding small enough to make this option feasible?
Making your own invitations is a wiser choice in some situations over others. For example, if you’re only inviting a couple dozen guests to your wedding, then you shouldn’t have any trouble putting together beautiful invitations without getting too overwhelmed. If you’re having under 100 guests and you have a reliable team of assistants ready to support your efforts, then you’re probably in good shape, too. However, if you’re guest list includes more than 100 people, you really should consider other options unless you absolute adore spending all of your time on a huge craft project.
Question: Have I exhausted all other options?
While some couples make their own invitations as a labor of love, if you’re doing it because you are strapped for cash then make sure you’ve checked out all of the easier options first. You can sometimes find affordable printing services on the Internet or you can always opt for fill-in-the-blank invitations. They may not be as elegant, but they are less time-consuming and usually more affordable.
