Whether you choose wedding invitations depicting those lucky four leaf clovers and telling everyone to show up at the festivities on March 17th, you should definitely have prepared to continue on the St. Patrick’s Day theme throughout your wedding. That doesn’t mean you have to wear a green wedding dress, but there are plenty of ways to incorporate the holiday into your happy festivities.
If you want something easy for your wedding favors, go to a local bakery with a good reputation and order St. Patrick’s Day cookies. Most bakeries make themed cookies for every holiday. Some will use green others will go all out and have shaped cookies covered in icing. If you’re on a budget, then you could even make the cookies yourself. Seal a few in a decorative sack and tie it up with green and gold ribbon.
You could also create or purchase St. Patrick’s Day themed candy. One online shop sold themed candy kebobs that would be perfect for a more casual wedding. Again, if you’re on a budget you can always make your own candies using melted chocolate and affordable candy molds.
Another unique idea is to give your guests everything they would need to grow their own shamrocks. The seeds can be purchased for $2.95 a pack and some shamrock pots are available online for less than $1. To save money, you could pass out the favors to couples instead of to individual guests.
Of course, there’s more to a wedding than just the favors. Consider the refreshments at the reception. Obviously, serving green beer on tap is one possibility. You might also want to end the evening by serving Irish coffee (although not to designated drivers). For the menu, however, you might want to consider corned beef, cabbage, Irish soda bread, Reuben sandwiches, or an Irish stew.
If you want to decorate your reception according to the same theme, then consider starting early and growing some shamrocks of your own for the centerpieces. You can also find bud vases and fill them with green-dyed roses, carnations, or other flowers (these are usually available through florists around St. Patrick’s Day).
You don’t have to save the theme for your reception, however. Even if you don’t want to wear a green wedding dress, you could add some green elements to your attire. A green sash or a green flowers added to your bouquet would be good ideas. Emerald jewelry is also a nice touch. The rest of your bridal party could be dressed in various shades of green with gold accessories. The groom’s party could use green accessories to accentuate their suits.
Additionally, you can decorate the church or wedding location with green flower bouquets, streamers, potted shamrocks, or other similar items. You could also create your wedding programs on four-leaf clover shaped paper or on green stationery.
Having a St. Patrick’s Day wedding is one way to make your special day even more unique and fun for your guests. Just remember to start the entire event with appropriately themed wedding invitations so guests will know what they have to look forward to.
