One way to add a creative touch to wedding invitations you make yourself is by using clip art or other types of graphics. The good news is you'll be able to find large selections of clip art available on the Internet. The bad news is that finding the perfect graphic for your invitations in that tremendous selection may seem nearly impossible.
As with any aspect of your wedding invitations, you need to choose clip art or graphics which reflect the tone of your ceremony. If you are having a formal or semi-formal wedding, for example, you should avoid all graphics and stick with something traditional.
On the other hand, if you are having a more informal ceremony, then you have plenty of options available. The best places to start searching are web sites which sell wedding invitations. Take a look at the types of images they have included. Keep track of what you like and what you don't, particularly when it comes to the graphics.
Of course, not all of the clip art images you find online will be appropriate for your wedding. Even if you are dog lovers or ambitious individuals, you might want to avoid clip art showing animals or business. The same is true for clip art images of babies and children – those graphics just don't belong on the cover of your wedding invitations.
So what does? Well, the answer depends on your wedding.
Maybe you're having a destination wedding. In that case, you might pick clip art to reflect your destination. Palm trees, waves, beaches, sunsets, tropical drinks – you can find graphics of all these images. The same is true for most types of destinations. Of course, you may have to use your imagination a little more to find some of them.
Another idea is to use clip art that reflects the time of your wedding. An evening wedding invitation might include an image of the moon while a fall wedding might show a graphic of a pumpkin. Spring wedding invitations could be covered in images of flowers and trees. A Christmas season wedding might be decorated with images of Santa Claus, snow flakes, or Christmas trees.
You might also want something a little more traditional. Hearts and rings – alone or united – have always been a popular graphic for wedding invitations because they symbolize the couple's relationship. Some web sites also have wedding-specific clip art, such as wedding bells, wedding rings, brides, churches, and more.
After you narrow down your search for a particular type of clip art, then you can start looking at what is available and picking the most appropriate graphics. The images you pick should match the tone of the rest of the invitation. For instance, if your content is very formally written, then you shouldn't use a funny or cartoonish graphic on the front.
Pay attention to the color of the graphics, too. If you've already selected the color of your invitations, then you want to pick a clip art design that will be complementary. In fact, your safest bet is to choose your graphics before picking your paper. For most couples, it's easier to change the hue of the stationery than to track down that perfect piece of clip art.
