While not mandatory, some couples opt for giving a small token of their appreciation to all of the guests. These wedding favors, sometimes referred to an bomboniere, are passed out either at the end of the ceremony or during the reception. And, of course, if you choose to distribute wedding favors you'll need to print up some wedding favor tags.
Before we talk about wedding favor tags, let's talk briefly about some bomboniere ideas. Traditionally, bomboniere consisted of five sugared almonds wrapped in a bag made of tulle and tied with a colorful ribbon. The almonds stood for health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and long life.
Today, you can choose almost anything as a wedding favor. Small soaps, magnets, candy, pens, candles, wine glasses, picture frames, bookmarks, and more can all be used as gifts for your guests. Just remember to match your wedding favors to the theme and tone of your event.
Generally, you should pass out wedding favors to every adult guest who attends your ceremony. If you have many children coming, you might want to select a wedding favor especially for them, possibly something that will keep them occupied during the reception.
With that in mind, you'll need to carefully look at the numbers of people who will be attending and order an appropriate number of wedding favor tags. Remember to order a few extras since it will be cheaper to add those to the main order than to order a few separate ones at a later date.
Because you'll want to wait for your final guest list to order the tags, you won't be able to order them with the rest of your wedding stationery package.
The nice thing about wedding favor tags is that there are lots of options to choose from. They come in all designs, colors, shapes, etc. You can talk to your commercial printing about showing you some samples or you can go online to find an even wider selection. The choice is yours. Of course, as always, your tags should match the tone of your other wedding stationery.
What you write on your wedding favor tags is up to you, but most couples – at the very least – include the date of their wedding and their names. You could also include a brief poem (Poems Part I,
Poems Part II, Poems Part III,
Poems Part IV), a romantic quote, or a similar showing of love. Below is an example:

If you don't want to spend the extra money to have wedding favor tags printed for you, then make your own. One way to do this is to purchase a supply of heavy card stock paper and some cookie cutters in whatever shape you like (a heart or a star work nicely). With the cookie cutters and a pencil, draw the desired shapes on the paper then cut them out.
Now use a single hole punch to make a circle at the top of the shape and slide a piece of ribbon, string, or similar material through the hole so it will be ready to tie to your package of wedding favors.
You can write your message on the tags in black marker or perhaps something more festive, such as silver or gold. Make sure to create plenty of extras in case you make mistakes.
