Wedding Invitations Guide

Do Your Wedding Invitations Need the Touch of a Professional Printer?

When you’re looking at the costs of planning your wedding, those estimates from professional printers may seem to eat up an enormous chunk of funds that might be better spent on catering, wedding attire, even the honeymoon. However, before you decide to ditch the professional printer altogether you should keep a few things in mind.

Consider the Appearance of Your Wedding Invitations

First, you need to think about the final results. What are your do-it-yourself invitations likely to resemble? If you’re not particularly good with crafts, then you may not be too happy and remember you’re only – hopefully – going to get married once in your life so these invitations should be special.

Professionally printed wedding invitations usually look better because they use thermography. Thermography is a process that creates raised lettering on the flat paper.  This gives the invitations an elegant look. Your home laser or inkjet printer is not capable of capturing this same look.

Plus, your options are going to be limited if you are creating your own invitations. While printer’s have dozens of ink and font options for you to choose from, you’re going to be limited to black and a few colors your inkjet printer can reproduce. Don’t forget you’ll be spending a fortune to change out those empty ink cartridges.

Other Reasons to Consider a Professional Printer

Using a printer can also be a blessing because he or she can offer extra services that you may need but can not easily do at home, such as reproducing maps, printing up wedding programs, or even printing your return envelopes. While these services do cost most, the benefits they offer may be well worth the extra cash.

Additionally, choosing a professional printer is going to save you time. As you are planning your wedding, the last thing you need is a project that is going to tie you up for days or weeks. Remember you’re on a deadline, too. You need to get those invitations in the mail in plenty of time for your guests to make their arrangements and let you know if they will be attending.

That doesn’t mean hiring a professional printer to handle the entire job is your only option. In some cases, you can actually save money by purchasing your own paper and taking it to the printer. Online printing services can also be a good source of savings. If you do choose a professional printer, you can save money by keeping things simple: avoid silver or gold ink, for example, because it costs more and stick to thermography instead of choosing engraving or other more expensive printing options.
