NOTE:

These instructions are just a helpful guide and in no way are a guarantee that they will be suitable for every computer or printer. Due to a wide variation in computers and invitation paper stocks - we can not guarantee that your computer and printer will be compatible with every type of invitation. We accept no responsibility for cards damaged when printed using these directions. Printing cards on your own is a "print at your own risk" proposition - and you should allow for a few damaged cards from mechanical or human error. If you would prefer that your cards be professionally printed, please select print option "Custom Printed by MyExpression.com" and fill out the appropriate text fields.

NOTES ABOUT PRINTERS:

As a general rule, laser printers provide the cleanest and crispest results for printing on paper or vellum stock. With the introduction of many inexpensive laser printers, however, there is no longer any guarantee that a laser printer will print on everything nicely. Many inkjets provide very nice results in color or black and white. You must be very careful if attempting to print vellum stock with an inkjet, as it is not always compatible - or can require a very long dry time. The best advice for any printing job is to test one or two cards on the printer and inspect them very carefully before printing the entire batch to avoid losses. These guidelines are meant to provide helpful information based on our experiences, and we accept no responsibility for cards damaged when printed using them.

Printing with Microsoft Word®   (General Printing Instructions)

Opening a new document: Launch Microsoft Word® - a blank, new document should appear

Setting your page: Is the layout of your card VERTICAL (up and down) or HORIZONTAL (side to side)?

If your card is VERTICAL - Go to File > Page Setup > Margins > click Portrait under Orientation.

Next click the PAPER tab. Enter your card's exact measurements in width and height.

Click back to the MARGINS tab. Carefully measure the margins of your card. The margin is the space around the edge of your card where you do not want any print to fall. The margin is often approximately I inch from the top, bottom, left, and right - but if there is artwork at the side or bottom of the card that you do not want to print over, that needs to also be considered when measuring the margin. Set the top, bottom, left and right margin, then click OK. Your final page template should be set.

If your card is HORIZONTAL - Go to File > Page Setup > Margins > click Landscape under Orientation.

Next click the PAPER tab. Enter your card's exact measurements in width and height.

Click back to the MARGINS tab. Carefully measure the margins of your card. The margin is the space around the edge of your card where you do not want any print to fall. The margin is often approximately 1(one) inch from the top, bottom, left, and right - but if there is artwork at the side or bottom of the card that you do not want to print over, that needs to also be considered when measuring the margin. Set the top, bottom, left and right margin, then click OK. Your final page template should be set.

WHEN YOU PRINT A CARD IN LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION - YOU WILL FEED IT THROUGH THE PRINTER SIDEWAYS. THE COPY WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE PRINTED IN THE PROPER DIRECTION. MANY CARDS REQUIRE THAT THEY BE PRINTED IN LANDSCAPE DUE TO THE WIDTH MEASURING OVER 8 INCHES.

Typing your copy: After setting the page and margins, you have a blank template to work with. It is often best to click on the "center" command for your copy. This button is at the top of your toolbar - and makes all your copy centered between your margins. Continue to enter your copy. Change the size of the type and the font until you achieve the desired placement.

Test paper: Trim out a piece of blank paper to test your print layout. Lay the piece of blank paper over the invitation you wish to print - and lightly trace the artwork or margins to that you have an accurate "test page" to run through your printer. Place the "test page" only in your printer - and press print. Review your test page and make any alterations to placement and font size, etc. Create as many "test pages" as needed until you have reached the desired copy placement. Pay very close attention to the way that you load your test paper in the printer. You will want to load your invitations in the printer the exact same way - noting if this is with artwork side up, down, etc.

Print your cards: Load one card in your printer just as you had loaded the test page, and print it. It is recommended to print a few cards at a time to avoid feeding. Heavier card stock may require that each card be fed individually, instead of just placing the stack of cards in the tray.
