Overlay

An overlay is an enhancement that can transform an invitation or program card into a work of art when you use it creatively and imaginatively. Translucent or see through papers are popularly used as overlays to add to flat cards or around single fold invitation cards, to give them a dreamy ethereal look. If used as fold over sheets and fixed with a silk or satin ribbon, they make the card appear even more elegant.

Translucent overlays can be printed with inkjet and laser printers and placed over a flat card to give them a pleasing appearance. You can also make a photograph stand out or soften the colors by adding a translucent sheet on it. Translucent sheet overlays come in a variety of colors including gold, silver and pearl, and when they are added to parchment sheets, they look terrific. Translucent vellum overlays are also widely used.

They are perfect accessories in scrapbooking, paper craft and for making hand made cards. You can create a beautiful shadowy effect when you add vellum overlay over an embossed card. Artists usually cover their sketches and paintings with overlays when presenting their work.
